Weekliii Round-Up: News on Applying Virtual Reality to Geomatics and Embracing Updated GIS Patterns

While it's been a short week for some folks, we hope you all have made the most of it. Take time out of your busy Friday to read up on all things - okay, just a few things - related to Geomatics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Natural Resources. More below...

The Huge Potential of Virtual Reality for Geomatics

Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) are two technologies that have found themselves in unexpected places. From fun, on-the-go phone apps designed for pure entertainment to more delicate uses like engineering applications, they both will likely continue to spread their wings over the coming years.

How have they been integrated into the geomatics industry so far? What is the outlook there?

Learn more about their application in this #DailyBrainCandiii post.

Taking Web Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to Scale with Distributed Geographic Information System (GIS) Technology

Many industries have long used Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in one way or another. From the time of hand-drawn and paper maps to modern technology that allows the creation of a map on a mobile device within minutes, it is a technology that is constantly seeing change and improvement. Within this landscape, many organizations have found that adopting a distributed GIS pattern has been the most successful for maintaining the evolution of this technology and its application. What is this pattern, and how does it compare to web GIS? Discover more about this concept in this week's #DailyBrainCandiii post from Esri's Jack Dangermond.
