When you hear Feng Shui, what immediately comes to mind - Arranging your couch just-so? Maybe even folding the socks in that dresser drawer the way Marie Kondo demanded of you? Better yet, do you think of the optimal placement of Oil and Gas assets based on their surroundings?
Unless you are familiar with Integrated Geomancy, that may not be the first place your mind wanders...now.
With this Meet the Product, we would like to expose you to some of the awe-inspiring solutions our company creates in-house. One such product is an application for Full Field Optimization of Oil and Gas assets, aptly named Integrated Geomancy.
ArcGIS Solution for Full Field Optimization
Available as an ArcGIS Desktop Add-In and ArcGIS Pro toolbox, this application provides a comprehensive and holistic methodology for full integration and interaction between environmental, economic, construction, and reclamation factors involved in field development. The Geomancy Decision Engine, the model on which this solution is built, supports optimum design by balancing these factors in conjunction with overarching goals and constraints, allowing for customizable and all-inclusive results.
Speaking of results, Integrated Geomancy is used for the planning and siting of Pipeline Gathering Systems, Transmission Pipelines, Access Roads, Well Pads, and Central Processing Facilities based on elevation, existing infrastructure, and constraints...Now does Feng Shui ring a bell?
Feng Shui Features
Integrated Geomancy acts as a Full Field Optimization toolkit and Knowledge Management system all-in-one. Operating based on a Project and Scenario framework - where the Project represents the overarching context and each subsequent Scenario consists of Project data to be analyzed individually as "What-If" instances - the toolkit maintains all input data and results within its own specialized file structure and naming conventions. It ensures you know the location of every piece of information, allowing for easily sharing results or even quickly reproducing analyses based on settings stored within the Project.
The Geomancy Decision Engine allows for complete customization of a Project, inputting as much data to serve as constraints, as desired. This data can be anything from Depth Surfaces and Land Cover to datasets representing Anthropogenic and No-Go areas. It is a perfect case of "Include all the things!"...even though, technically, only a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) is required.
Constraints are then employed to determine Constructability, or the degree of efficiency for construction in a Study Area. Constraints coupled with Constructability ensure that the siting process for Well Pads, Roadways, and Pipelines minimizes the impact and investment across the entirety of the field.
Geomancy Goals Galore
The idea for this application first came out of the need for an alternative approach to the typical planning practices that exist when it comes to Full Field Optimization. The breadth of these practices means that it often takes weeks or months to collaborate among teams and produce a single potential set of asset locations...let along multiple solutions!
Realizing a need for a faster, more efficient process, Integrated Geomancy has been designed with many goals in mind, including:
Support the decision-making process through consensus.
Capture the design basis.
Increase consistency in the planning process.
Perform "What-If" analyses in Scenarios.
Generate multiple options in a fraction of the time.
Reduce the effort needed to evaluate these multiple options.
Improve documentation of siting rationale.
Produce reliable and repeatable results.
All in all, this application is built with the professional in mind. Designed to work alongside your corporate Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and built on the ArcGIS platform, the Geomancy Decision Engine is able to slipstream nicely into the planning workflow and provide results almost immediately after implementation. The application provides the necessary tools to accomplish this, including those used for Project and Scenario definition, data management and analysis, and reporting and visualizing.
Integrated Geomancy is a unique application that allows for both standard optimization and temporal analyses, aiding in the often cumbersome planning process. Interested in how you can apply a little Feng Shui to your siting workflow?
Integrated Geomancy is an Add-In for ArcGIS that enables Oil and Gas professionals to better plan the placement and routes of assets like Pipeline Gathering Systems, Transmission Pipelines, Well Pad Sites, Access Roads, and more. The toolkit takes a comprehensive approach to the planning process, allowing teams to build a model of the area in which construction will take place - incorporating data like elevation, environmental zones, populated areas, etc.
